A Northern Ireland woman who was warned by a High Court judge to stay away from a teenage boy was in court yesterday on abduction charges.

Ms Roseanne McGrory (27), whose address was given as a hostel in West Belfast, faced three charges of abducting the boy on dates last year when he was 15. She was also charged with assisting the boy, who is the subject of a children's order, to stay away from the North and West Belfast Social Services Trust on three occasions.

Defence solicitor Mr Norman Shannon told Belfast Magistrates' Court the defendant denied the abduction charges. He said the boy had regularly absconded from a children's home and came to Mrs McGrory's house. She would not turn him away because he was wet and hungry.

Ms McGrory was released on bail and must report to police twice a week. She was ordered not to contact the boy.
