A 53-year-old woman has died and three others were injured when a car hit a group of people in North Dublin in the early hours of this morning.

The car hit a number of pedestrians outside Kavanagh's pub on the Malahide Road, Fairview, shortly after 2.15am.

The driver was arrested at the scene. He was taken to hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

The woman was taken to the Mater Hospital where she died shortly after arrival.

Another pedestrian, a man in his 30s, was taken to the Mater where he is being treated in the intensive care unit for serious head injuries.

Two others, a man and a woman in their thirties, were treated for minor injuries.

The road was closed for a number of hours to facilitate a technical examination.
