A woman has died in hospital following a crash on the M8 in Co Cork this morning.
The woman, who was in her 60s, was a back seat passenger in a car that was involved in a collision with a lorry in the southbound carriage of the motorway near Watergrass Hill at about 6.20am.
She was taken to Cork University Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The female driver and other two passengers in the car – a man and a woman - were taken to the same hospital. Gardaí did not reveal the extent of their injuries
The driver of the lorry did not need hospital treatment.
The road is closed for an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and diversions are in place.
