A man covered in blood walked into Carlow Garda station and handed over a blood-stained knife, saying that he had just stabbed two people. Mr Dermot Lennon (27), of Riverside, Carlow, is pleading not guilty to the manslaughter of Dearbhla Keating (28) on November 19th last year and to endangerment in that he intentionally or recklessly stabbed her with a knife at Riverside, Carlow.
Mr Lennon is also pleading not guilty to assaulting Mr Alan Walsh, causing him serious injury, and with endangerment in that he stabbed Mr Walsh with a knife.
On the second day of the trial in Carlow Circuit Court, the jury heard that at 2.10 a.m. on November 19th, Mr Lennon walked into Carlow Garda station.
When Garda Joe Delaney asked the man if he had been stabbed, the man replied: "No, I did the stabbing."
Earlier, the State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison, told the court that Ms Keating died as a result of a "stab wound through her heart from front to back".
The trial continues.
