AN alleged rape victim has denied she agreed to have sex with a man because she was glad of his company after becoming lost following an argument with her boyfriend.

The woman also rejected a defence suggestion that afterwards she had second thoughts and claimed she had been raped.

The woman was giving evidence at Belfast Crown Court yesterday on the second day of the trial of Mr Craig Francis Taylor (23), from the Donegall Road area of Belfast, who denies raping the woman in June 1993.

The witness earlier told the court she was raped on the grass verge of the West Link motorway after she met Mr Taylor in Roden Street about midnight on June 14th/15th and he offered to show her the way home to the Shankill Road.

During cross examination she denied that after having intercourse they had walked some distance together before she ran off and tried to stop a car. She repeated that she had run off immediately afterwards, shouting at Mr Taylor that he had raped her. Two previous trials were stopped for legal reasons.

The case continues today.
