A woman has been granted bail after she was charged with attacking a garda who was doused with boiling oil in Dublin yesterday morning.
Garda Michael O’Shea, of Kilmainham station, received serious injuries after he responded to a call-out relating to a domestic dispute at Mary Aikenhead House, on James's Street, in the south inner city.
Garda O’Shea was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries to his face, neck and shoulder. A second man injured during the incident was also taken to hospital but was later discharged.
Mother-of-two Rachel Hiheglo (27), who is originally from Togo, and has an address at Mary Aikenhead House, was this morning at Dublin District Court charged with assault causing harm to Garda O’Shea and Enzo Kone.
Garda Sergeant Brendan Maloney told Judge Dermot Dempsey there was no objection to bail, provided the accused surrendered her passport.
Defence solicitor Cahir O’Higgin said: "I can confirm that her passport has been surrendered, that has been done; through me she will undertake not to apply for a further passport or other travel documents," Mr O’Higgins said.
Judge Dempsey ordered Ms Hiheglo to sign on at her local Garda station, every Monday and Friday.
Ms Hiheglo was ordered to appear in court on September 12th next.
