A manager at a hair and beauty salon in Co Louth was awarded €32,240 in compensation for unfair dismissal after she refused to fire another member of staff.
Lorraine Reilly from Drogheda took a case to the Employment Appeals Tribunal against Sandra Brady and John Dyke of The Retreat Hair and Beauty Salon, Bloombury Centre, Drogheda.
Ms Reilly was dismissed on July 8th, 2009 after she refused to fire the staff member.
As a result, she was called to a meeting and informed she was being summarily dismissed for not fulfilling her duties as a manager.
The claimant did not get any notice but received a week's holiday pay that she was due.
In its ruling, the tribunal found that Ms Reilly’s claim under the Unfair Dismissals Acts succeeded and awarded her €32,240.00 as compensation. It also awarded her €1,240 for pay due in lieu of two weeks’ notice.
