The State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison, was due to carry out a post-mortem last night on the body of Mr Gerard Kavanagh (45), of Calliaghstown, Kells, who died after being stabbed at his home on Sunday night.
Detectives investigating the murder arrested a woman and a 17-year-old boy early yesterday morning.
Gardai confirmed they were called to the house at around 11.30 p.m. on Sunday and found Mr Kavanagh lying on the kitchen floor with what appeared to be at least two stab wounds to his back.
He was taken by ambulance to Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, where he was pronounced dead at 1 a.m. Gardai in Kells began a murder investigation and two hours later arrested the 46-year-old woman under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Just after 6 a.m. they arrested a 17-year-old youth. Both were released without charge yesterday afternoon and a file will be prepared for the DPP.
Dr Harbison was due to carry out a post-mortem examination late last night after completing his work at a murder scene in Longford.
Mr Kavanagh had worked as a technician with Eircom in Navan since 1972 and lived with his wife and four children in the family home, a mile from Kells on the Mullingar road. It is understood that he, his wife and some of their children had spent most of Sunday at the christening of a relative's child.
