London - A woman aged 62 has been arrested in connection with an alleged attempt to blackmail Harrods tycoon Mr Mohamed al Fayed, it emerged yesterday.
A spokesman for Mr Fayed said a German woman had demanded £500,000 from the businessman, threatening to release love letters purportedly written to her by him to the German press if he did not pay up.
The letters, supposedly written 35 years ago, were fakes, said the spokesman, who added it was the seventh attempt to blackmail Mr Fayed.
