A woman on a round-the-world trip fell to her death in the Scottish highlands days before she was due home, it emerged tonight.
Teresa Conalty, from Wicklow town, suffered head injuries after falling onto rough ground in the Cairngorms yesterday morning. The 40-year-old nurse was due home on Wednesday following ten months travelling.
Ms Conalty died in hospital in Aberdeen after falling 200 metres in the eastern highlands.
She was evacuated from the scene by members of the Strathclyde Police and Arrochar Mountain Rescue teams who were training nearby and Cairngorm Mountain Ski Patrol staff.
She was then flown to Aberdeen by an RAF Helicopter.
Local Fine Gael councillor Pat Byrne said the town was shocked by the news.
“The family are well-liked and a popular family,” Mr Byrne said. “This is a tragedy. The whole town is actually shocked by this, it is a very tragic thing altogether.
