A CO WEXFORD man charged with 11 counts of rape and 11 counts of sexual assault has been sent forward for trial at the Central Criminal Court.

The 29-year-old man appeared before Judge Donnchadh Ó Buachalla at Wexford District Court on Monday.

All 22 charges are in respect of the same female.

The offences are alleged to have been carried out in the same area of rural Wexford on dates between June 14th, 1997, and June 13th, 1999.

Tim Cummings, representing the defendant, said that the book of evidence had been served by the gardaí in Wexford.

Judge Ó Buachalla then sent the defendant forward for trial at the next sitting of the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.

He certified for two counsel at Mr Cummings's request.

The defendant was remanded by the court on continuing bail with the condition that he should sign on at Wexford Garda station every Saturday between 9am and 9pm.
