A sustained marketing promotion is planned for Co Wexford, both as a tourist destination and as a location for film-making, following last year's shooting there of a Steven Spielberg film on the Normandy Landings.
The Wexford Film Commission, which was instrumental in convincing the Hollywood director to use Curracloe beach as the setting for Saving Private Ryan, said the film generated spending of about £4 million in the county.
The chairman of the Wexford Film Commission, Mr Tommy Carr, said the expenditure illustrated the practical benefits which film-making could bring to an area. Mr Carr said the commission will now make strenuous attempts to secure the premiere of Saving Private Ryan for Wexford.
