United Nations - An unusually divided Security Council has approved a two-month renewal of a 310-member UN force that has been monitoring a ceasefire and trying for more than eight years to organise a referendum to decide the future of Western Sahara - a former Spanish colony.
The vote in the 15-state council was 12 in favour, with Namibia voting against and Jamaica and Mali abstaining. The resolution was sponsored by Britain, France, Russia and the US.
