German teenager Moritz Volz has been summoned into Arsenal's squad for tomorrow's Champions League tie at Roma due to a deepening defensive injury crisis.
The 19-year-old was called up due to doubts over Oleg Luzhny's hamstring injury, which prevented him training yesterday, at a time when Lauren is already out with an ankle problem and Kolo Toure is suspended after his red card at PSV Eindhoven.
Volz's only previous first-team start was in the Worthington Cup but he was withdrawn from last night's reserve game against Watford at half-time as a precautionary move.
David Seaman is also a slight doubt for tomorrow night's game with a groin problem, although he is expected to be fit.
Martin Keown is in the squad but is not yet ready to return from hamstring trouble, Dennis Bergkamp - who does not fly - is not travelling to rest his own recent injury problems, while Ray Parlour and Kanu are still ruled out.
Provisional squad: Seaman, Shaaban, Taylor, Luzhny, Volz, Cole, Campbell, Cygan, Stepanovs, Tavlaridis, Keown, Vieira, Edu, Gilberto, Ljungberg, Pires, Wiltord, van Bronckhorst, Henry, Jeffers.
