A Welsh lorry driver was remanded in custody last night after being charged with trafficking drugs worth €6 million.
Mr David Passmore from Castlehill Apartments, Carlow, appeared at a special sitting of Enniscorthy District Court.
He was arrested on Thursday night in relation to the seizure of cannabis resin in Wexford.
Customs officers discovered the drugs inside 17 large unmarked cardboard boxes in a lorry container at Rosslare Europort.
It was the largest ever drugs seizure at the port.
The lorry, driven by 41-year-old Mr Passmore, arrived on a ferry from Spain via Cherbourg in France.
The Customs services said the seizure resulted from risk profiling by Customs officers at Rosslare. Passmore was charged with the trafficking, sale and supply of drugs and will appear at Cloverhill District Court, Dublin on October 8th.
