It is one of the busiest travel weekends in the year with Iarnr≤d ╔ireann expected to carry more than 400,000 passengers over the holiday period while Stena Line estimates 57,000 passengers.

Operation Freeflow: AN extra 100 Gardai have been drafted into Dublin for Operation Freeflow. Only emergency roadworks are in operation: N11 Wyattville Roadworks and restrictions will continue to reduce northbound and southbound traffic to a single lane on the N11 at the Wyattville junction. A new speed limit of 30 mph has been introduced to the N11 between the Esso Filling Station at Cabinteely and Loughlinstown Roundabout and on the section of Wyattville Rd at Loughlinstown.

Dublin Port Tunnel Works N1 / M1 Swords Rd is reduced to one lane between Collins Ave & Shantalla Bridge for Dublin Port Tunnel Construction works. Motorists travelling to & from South & West Dublin are advised to use the M50. Northbound out of the city divert via Finglas Rd to the M50 or via Griffith Ave and Ballymun Rd to the M50. Southbound into the city divert via Malahide Rd, Coolock & Fairview. N32 junction Malahide Road Roundabout is to be replaced by traffic lights.

Luas: Ongoing construction work for LUAS is restricting traffic to one lane both ways for a section of the M50 under the Red Cow Roundabout / N7 interchange. Sean Heuston Bridge is closed until 29th April 2002. The Ballinteer Road is closed from Dundrum Cross to Barton Road East, until 15th January 2002. Traffic is diverted in the area via the Wyckham Bypass and Sandyford Road. A one way traffic system will remain in place on the Brewery Road from the N11 (St. Brigid's Church Road) towards the Leopardstown Road, until March 31st 2002. Capel St Bridge is again accessible to traffic on the North and South Quays. The right turn restriction has been lifted.

DART: Extra DARTs will continue to operate on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights on the hour from 12am to 3am until 22nd. Northbound trains will leave from Pearse St Station serving all stations as far as Howth. The 2am DART will operate as far as Malahide. Southbound trains from Connolly Station serving all stations with the exception of Tara St and Grand Canal Dock. Security will be in place on the trains.

Bus: Dublin Bus will operate extra bus services on Sunday, starting between 7.30 and 8 a.m.

Seven people died in road accidents in the past week, bringing the toll this year to 393.
