Delays can be expected on the main routes into Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway this weekend, as Christmas shopping begins in earnest.
Horse racing also takes place tomorrow and Sunday at Fairyhouse racecourse in Co Meath between 12.30 and 3.30 p.m. and delays should be expected on all routes leading to the racecourse. Parking will be available at the racecourse.
Cork
On Sunday a motor rally will take place between Ballinagarrane and Ballybraher from 10 a.m. until 5.30 p.m. Local roads will be closed during the rally. The alternative route for traffic going from Whitegate to Ballycotton is on the Ballyrobin to Cloyne road and on the Cloyne to Ballycotton road.
Dublin
A number of traffic restrictions are in place for the construction of Dublin Port Tunnel. The N1/M1 Swords Road will be reduced to one lane in both directions between Collins Avenue and Coolock Interchange. Diversions and sign-posted alternative routes will be as follows:
Motorists approaching Dublin from the South/West should use the M50 and motorists travelling from the city should follow the sign-posted route via Finglas Rd to the M50 or via Griffith Ave and Ballymun Rd to the M50.
Motorists travelling to destinations South/West of Dublin should use the M50.
Motorists travelling to the city should follow the sign-posted route via Malahide Rd, Coolock and Fairview.
Only buses, taxis, bicycles and motorcycles will have access to the slip road southbound from Shantalla bridge. Extra priority will be given to public transport with three Northside QBC routes serving the area - Malahide Rd, Finglas Rd and the Swords Rd.
Motorists travelling to or from Dublin Airport should leave extra time for all journeys.
Tipperary
The Cashel/Tipperary Road will be closed until at least the beginning of January to carry out road improvement at Knockroe. Diversions will be signposted as follows: from Cashel to Tipperary: Divert at Cashel via R505 to Dundrum and R661 to Tipperary Town; from Tipperary to Cashel: Divert via N74 to Golden onto County Road 257 to New Inn Village and N8 to Cashel.
Kerry
Roadworks continue at Mounthawk at the junction of the Tralee-Ardfert Road and the Fenit Road until mid February.
Road Deaths
Five people died on the roads this week, bringing the death toll for November to 32. This year 366 people have been killed in traffic accidents - nine fewer than at the same date last year.
