Waterford Crystal fund approved

Waterford Crystal workers are to receive over €2

Waterford Crystal workers are to receive over €2.5 million from Europe for retraining following a vote in the European Parliament.

The parliament today approved the mobilisation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF), which can be drawn down by 653 workers who were made redundant in Waterford Crystal and three of its suppliers.

The total amount which has pledged by Europe is €2,570,853. When this is added to the funds available through the Irish Government, the total pool of money available to the workers is €3.9 million.

The EGF money will be made available to redundant Waterford Crystal workers as well as employees of Thomas Fennell Engineering Ltd, RPS Engineering Ltd and Abbey Electric, companies which supplied the company.
