SOUTH Dublin County Council has begun disconnecting 37 households which have not paid their water charges on foot of, district court orders.

At yesterdays sitting of Rathfarnham District Court, [the council applied for four disconnection orders.

Two were granted, one case was adjourned by consent and one application was not allowed on a technicality, but "proceedings in the case will be recommenced once the technicality has been addressed", the council said in a statement.

The council said domestic water charge bills for 1996 will be issued shortly. The charge remains at £70 for the third successive year. It said a "generous" waiver scheme will operate for those who claim a hardship exemption.
