A bench warrant was issued at Cookstown Magistrates Court yesterday for the arrest of a Dungannon man who failed to appear on arson and criminal damage charges relating to church properties in Cookstown and Dungannon, Co Tyrone.
Mr Desmond Lawrence Campbell (26), of no fixed address, had been granted bail two weeks ago on condition that he resided in a hostel in Ballymena, but he failed to answer his bail yesterday.
He is accused of setting fire to Derryloran Church of Ireland church in Cookstown on December 5th, 1996, and damaging a statue in the nearby Holy Trinity Catholic church the previous day. He is also charged with damaging headstones and a statue belonging to the Sisters of Mercy in a cemetery at Dungannon in October 1995.
