A Dutch man wanted in connection with the 1999 murder of a woman in Belgium has been arrested in Croatia following a tip-off from Gardaí.
Morgan Schreurs (39) evaded capture for 13 years and resided in Ireland for some of that time before moving to Croatia.
As part of an Interpol operation Garda issued an appeal to the public for help in locating Mr Schreurs earlier this month.
On foot of that appeal a number of members of the public came forward to confirm that he had resided in Ireland before moving to the Balkans.
Gardaí then liaised with their Croatian counterparts through Interpol who confirmed the location of Mr Schuers in the sea-side town of Rovinj.
He was arrested on June 22nd following confirmation from Belgium that he was sought on European Arrest Warrant.
Mr Schreurs was targeted as part of Interpol’s Infra-Red 2012 operation, an international joint police operation targeting high-profile criminals.
Gardaí had previously investigated Mr Schreurs - with extensive inquiries in Dublin in 2002 - after they received intelligence he was working in pubs in the city centre.
It was also believed he was working part-time as a DJ using the stage name DJ Morgandroid, a name he had also used when living in the southern German city of Munich in 1999.
Interpol has highlighted 25 targets as part of the Infra-Red 2012 from a list of over 500 targets that have been collected from 57 countries in six continents.
There are no Irish suspects on the list.
