Rugby World champions Australia celebrated their 400th test appearance by crushing a spirited Spanish side by a record score of 92-10 in an entertaining international in Madrid today.

The victory exceeded the Wallabies previous highest score of 76-0 set against a weakened England in Brisbane back in 1998.

In a game played on the national holiday of All Saints Day the Wallabies showed little compassion for the Spaniards, who were, unsurprisingly, out-classed in all departments.

But Australia provided an entertaining exhibition of their attacking ability as they ran in 13 tries - including a hat-trick from Chris Latham in front of a 8,000 crowd at the modest Campo Central in Madrid's University City.

Spain played their part too with some brave counter attacking play and thoroughly deserved their 66th minute try from lock Jose Miguel Villau.

But the game will have provided the Wallabies with little more than a light work out ahead of their more demanding internationals on their European tour, starting against England next weekend.
