Grand slam winners Wales will not reach their full potential for at least another 12 months and will only improve, coach Warren Gatland said.

Wales sealed the Six Nations title, an outcome few would have predicted at the start of the tournament, by beating France 29-12 win in Cardiff yesterday.

"I honestly believe that this team over the next 12 months to two years will become a very good side, that will be difficult to beat and won't be afraid to play anyone. We've made a lot of progress in the last seven weeks," Gatland said.

"We are excited about the potential going forward. Not many teams have worked as hard on or off the field as we have in this tournament. We got better as the tournament went on," the New Zealander told reporters.

Gatland, while savouring the triumph in his first few months in charge, tempered the euphoria by pointing out that it was far from a vintage Six Nations tournament.

"We must keep our feet on the ground," he said. "A couple of teams are going through a transition - France are experimenting with younger players, Italy are under a new coach. England and Ireland... I will make no comment on them.

"We'll be stronger again next year. For us the pleasing thing is the progress we have made from game to game."
