Around 200 people were involved in the incident at the junction of North Queen Street and Duncairn Gardens. Nationalist residents claimed that loyalists threw paint bombs at two houses on Saturday night. Three RUC officers and four civilians were hurt. Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man has been treated for cuts and bruising after he was attacked by masked men in Castlewellan, Co Down.
