Hundreds of villagers took part in a reception for Mrs Hanorah McGrath, of Holycross, Co Tipperary, on her 100th birthday yesterday. They assembled in Ned Lowry's public house to pay tribute to Mrs McGrath, who ran the first taxi service in the area 30 years ago and who worked as a personal assistant in nearby Farney Castle for 25 years. The attendance included her husband, Michael (91), and former government minister Mr Michael Lowry TD, a neighbour. Father Tom Breen, parish priest, presented Mrs McGrath with her cheque for £300 from the President, Mrs McAleese.
