A POLISH man who was attacked in an industrial estate in Coolock, Dublin at the weekend has died.
Lukasz Rzeszutko (27) was on his way to work at 5am on Saturday in a fish processing plant, Kish Fish, at the Newtown industrial estate when he was attacked by a gang, sustaining head injuries.
A statement from Kish Fish last night said all the staff there were shocked by what happened.
He was an “exceptional colleague, popular and well-respected”, the company said, and their thoughts and prayers were with his family.
Mr Rzeszutko lived with his partner in Clarehall. He had been on a life-support system since the assault and died yesterday evening in Beaumont Hospital.
Mr Rzeszutko’s family arrived on Sunday and are being assisted by the Polish embassy.
Gardaí arrested three men over the incident and one of them appeared at Dublin District Court yesterday in connection with the attack.
Detective Garda Niall Gibbs told Judge David McHugh that the accused, Edward Byrne (20), with an address at a Dublin 8 YMCA hostel, was arrested on Sunday evening and made no reply when he was charged with assault causing harm.
Defence solicitor John Feeney told Judge McHugh that his client, who was dressed in a grey hooded top, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers and remained silent during the proceedings, was deferring a bail application until Friday next.
Judge McHugh said that given the seriousness of the charges he was remanding the accused in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Friday, October 8th.
Legal aid was granted after the court heard that the defendant was unemployed.
A major investigation into Saturday’s attack has begun with a large team of gardaí involved.
CCTV footage from a number of premises on the Newtown industrial estate is being studied.
Two teenagers are still being questioned in connection with the incident.
