Army bomb experts have made safe a suspected pipe bomb in Donegal town this afternoon.
An area in the centre of the town was sealed off today while the device was examined by an Army bomb disposal unit.
The unit arrived in the town from its base in Athlone at about 12.45pm to investigate the device, which was found outside the offices of the EBS on Main Street.
The bomb was made safe and the bomb disposal officer gave the all clear shortly before 1.30pm.
Garda Inspector Denis Joyce of the South Donegal Division said a member of the public raised the alarm at 7.00am today.
A large area around the discovery was evacuated within two hours.
The device was taken from the scene, and the remains were handed over to gardaí for investigation
Inspector Joyce said no claim of responsibility has been received. He said gardaí are keeping an open mind about the incident.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
