The High Court yesterday reserved judgment on an action by a farmer against Allied Irish Banks for damages for alleged bad advice not to avail of the 1988 tax amnesty.
Mr Justice Geoghegan said he would give his decision in the next law term.
Mr Michael Gayson, Racecourse Cross, Cashel, Co Tipperary, claims he was given bad advice urging him not to avail of the 1988 tax amnesty in relation to a non-resident "trust" account he held for 30 years. He claimed this led him to make substantially higher payments to the Revenue than he would have had to make had he availed of the amnesty. AIB denies the claims.
