Three vehicles were destroyed overnight in Derry in a series of arson attacks in Northern Ireland coinciding with the historic visit to Dublin by Queen Elizabeth.
Police in the Northern Ireland are on alert for possible attacks by dissident republicans linked to the Queen’s visit.
A PSNI spokesman said dissident republicans were involved in the throwing of petrol bombs at the car of Liam Bradley, a Catholic and former politician, whose son joined the PSNI.
The former mayor of Derry has been targeted before by dissidents.
A van and car were also hijacked and set on fire in the city last night.
Police said two armed men were responsible for at least one of the attacks.
They later sealed off an area of the city after reports of a suspicious object in a road.
