Two Ulster Unionist politicians, Mr Jeffrey Donaldson and Mr Danny Kennedy, have announced their support for groups of victims of republican paramilitary violence who wish to take cases to the European Court of Human Rights.
The men will tomorrow meet the widows and families of members of the British security forces killed by the IRA, to consider filing a human rights application and to discuss demands for compensation from the British government.
Mr Donaldson described as "disgraceful" last week's awarding of compensation by the European Court of Human Rights to the families of IRA men killed by the British security forces. He said victims' groups had subsequently approached him to say they wished to take a case against Sinn Fein.
"The European Court's ruling has resulted in a wave of disgust right across the community, and people just feel that justice has been turned on its head," said the Lagan Valley MP.
"I hope that the government will appeal this obscene decision and will support any case that the victims may take to the European Court," he added.
Mr Kennedy, a UUP representative for Newry and Armagh, said he would encourage people directly affected by IRA violence in south Armagh to instigate legal proceedings in Europe.
"We will give serious consideration to mounting a legal challenge to fully expose the truth about republican atrocities," he said.
