UUP lodges complaint against SDLP

ULSTER unionists have reported the SDLP to the former US senator, Mr George Mitchell, for breach of his six principles

ULSTER unionists have reported the SDLP to the former US senator, Mr George Mitchell, for breach of his six principles. The complaint centres on remarks that an SDLP forum member, Mr Mark Durkan, reportedly made when addressing a rally in Derry on July 12th.

The UUP claims that Mr Durkan said. "Don't let our anger follow the traditional route the Orangemen want it to and fight with each other. Let's take it out on those responsible for what happened the Orange Order and the British government."

The SDLP leader, Mr John Hume, last night rejected the claims that Mr Durkan had incited a crowd to violence. "That is absolute rubbish. There is nobody more committed to peace than Mark Durkan."
