GAZA - The US Secretary of State, Mr Warren Christopher, yesterday urged the Palestinian President, Mr Yasser Arafat, to ensure the PLO removes clauses from its 1964 covenant calling for Israel's destruction.
Mr Christopher held talks with the PLO chairman for about 50 minutes at Beit Hanoun village, just inside the Palestinian ruled Gaza Strip. Mr Arafat said the legislative council elected in January and the Palestine National Council, the 446 member parliament in exile, would meet to consider amending the covenant in keeping with the peace accords.
