A US pharmaceutical company has temporarily closed its plant in Ringaskiddy, Co Cork, and laid off its 170 staff in a dispute about restructuring.

Workers were laid off temporarily last Friday as the dispute over new work practices reached a head.

Workers at the ADM citric acid plant in Ringaskiddy, Co Cork, have called on local politicians to intervene in a dispute that they say has left them locked them out of work since last Friday.

The workers described the company's restructuring plan as unfair adding that management has refused to allow them to do their jobs.
