American broadcaster Max Keiser has launched an appeal for funds to stage Anglo: The Musical in the US after former Anglo Irish Bank chief Seán FitzPatrick had to be written out of the show’s Irish production due to legal concerns.

The much-anticipated musical penned by Paul Howard was likened to “Hamlet without the prince” after the former banker’s puppet was put back into storage following a letter from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Mr Keiser last night however appealed to the public via his Twitter account to support an online fund seeking to raise $100,000 to bring the musical – with Mr FitzPatrick’s puppet in tow – stateside. He has suggested New York or Boston as possible locations for a production. He made the move after the DPP and lawyers for Mr FitzPatrick had written to the producers about the script.
