A US Army Apache attack helicopter was shot down today in western Iraq, but the two-man crew were rescued almost immediately, the US military said.
The helicopter was apparently downed by hostile fire and coalition troops were at the crash site, it said.
The statement did not say where the Apache was shot down, but US troops have met growing resistance from insurgents in the area north and west of Baghdad.
A division of the US army was in action today at a site 95 miles north of the capital, where Central Command said they were taking part in an attack on "a terrorist training camp".
