Rescue workers in Indonesia are searching for charred bodies on the top floor of a burned out nightclub.
Authorities have confirmed 46 people died in the blaze in south Sumatra province on Sunday.
The club in the city of Palembang did not have proper fire exits, officials said. They believe an electrical fault caused the fire that raced through the multi-storey nightclub.
Rescuers had to blast through a wall to free dozens of people while others jumped to their deaths as flames engulfed the roof.
"We are looking on the top floor of the karaoke bar," said police Captain Arum Prioyono. "It was full of people. We fear more may have died."
An official at the Palembang general hospital said the confusion about casualties numbers was due to the difficulty in identifying badly burned bodies.
Palembang is an industrial city of nearly 1.5 million people, about 250 miles north-west of Jakarta. In June 1998, 19 people died when a crowded shopping centre there burned down.
Operators of karaoke bars, cinemas, internet cafes and other entertainment businesses in Indonesia often ignore fire safety rules or fail to provide emergency exits on the premises.
