Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan will fly to Manchester this afternoon hoping to complete a £6.9 million sterling move to Manchester United.
Forlan is reported to have agreed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the league champions after rejecting the chance to sign for Middlesbrough.
"We have had the offer, now all we have to do is sign the contract," Forlan said.
"Manchester United is a big club and I've decided to go there. The thing is, they offered more than Middlesbrough. I flew here not knowing what was happening and things have now been resolved.
United are expected to finalise the transfer with cash-strapped Argentine club Independiente over the weekend once the 24-year-old completes a medical at Old Trafford.
After meeting United officials at Gatwick Airport this morning, Forlan decided against further negotiations with Middlesbrough in favour of flying to Manchester.
"People in Argentina had asked me where I wanted to go and I always said Manchester," he said. "It is important to me - something I would like to do, and now I just want to sign the contract."
