United Drug reported a 22 per cent increase in pretax profit for the year to September 30th to €28.3 million.
Turnover was up 15 per cent for the year at €1.17 million from €1.02 million.
Strong growth in the Irish wholesale sector offset a weaker-than-expected performance in the contract sales division. The contract distribution division recorded overall revenue growth of 13 per cent, although margins were squeezed with rising insurance costs and the renegotiation of one or two larger contracts.
The company said both its Irish and British businesses are in "excellent shape" to face the challenges of the new financial year.
