Johannesburg - Angola's UNITA rebel movement, locked in a 25-year civil war with the government, said on Tuesday it was holding ground within 50 km to the north and south-east of the capital Luanda.
But the movement's "foreign minister", Mr Alcides Sakala, said they had no immediate intention of attacking the capital - only of putting increasing pressure on the government of President Jose Eduardo dos Santos.
"We are very well placed in the vicinity of Luanda. There are a lot of operations going on," Mr Sakala said in a telephone call from UNITA's headquarters in Andulo.
