RTE's coverage of the General Election results will not be affected by industrial action after unions at the station this evening agreed to suspend the industrial action due to start at midnight on Friday.
The move came after RTE agreed to defer the decision to do away with its outside broadcast (OB) faciities.
SIPTU’s Broadcasting Branch Secretary, Mr Jimmy Jordan confirmed this evening that RTE’s internal industrial relations tribunal put forward proposals for dealing with the threatened industrial dispute over the privatisation of the services.
Mr Jordan said: "On foot of these proposals, management have agreed to defer reaching a conclusion on the proposed contracting out of the OB services. On this basis, both unions - SIPTU and the TEEU - have agreed to suspend their industrial action which was due to commence at midnight on Friday 17."
Further meetings have been arranged in an effort to resolve the dispute.
