SINN FEIN and Ulster Unionist leaders shared a platform yesterday at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. But they clashed over Northern Ireland's future economic relations with Britain and Ireland.

Mr Mitchel McLaughlin, national chairman of Sinn Fein, said that any settlement, would have to be based on the economic unity of the whole island, including a common currency.

Mr David Trimble, leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, said, however, that the financial unity of the United Kingdom was crucial to the future of Ulster. Their comments' came in a discussion on the business community's faith in the peace process.
