THE public sector union IMPACT yesterday warned that it may take industrial action in the Meteorological Office because management had failed to have the 7.55 a.m. medium term weather forecast on RTE's new style Morning Ireland programme fully restored.
The union has also called on the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht, Mr Higgins, to instruct RTE and the Met Service to resume this vital public service."
Mr Dave Hughes, the union's assistant general secretary, said public dissatisfaction with the new weather format remained high, with "total dissatisfaction" from farmers' groups, fishermen, county council engineers, the Sailing Association and members of the public especially the elderly who continued to register their dissatisfaction with RTE and the Met Service.
He disagreed with RTE's view that there was "no problem" with the new format.
