A trade union promised yesterday to return to a Co Down factory owned by millionaire businessman Dr Edward Haug hey in an attempt to recruit members.
The GMB union made its intentions clear after agreeing to settle an action brought against it in the High Court in Belfast by Norbrook Laboratories Ltd, Newry, of which Dr Haughey is chairman.
Last July Norbrook was granted an injunction restraining GMB officials from trespassing on factory premises or intimidating, harassing or interfering with employees. A judge made it clear, however, that the injunction did not prevent the union from recruiting members, so long as it was done lawfully.
Yesterday Mr James Mc Sparran QC, for Norbrook, said the action had been settled on foot of undertakings given by the union which, he said, had agreed to pay Norbrook's legal costs. Mr Reginald Weir QC, for the union, said the injunction granted on July 28th was now discharged.
