IMPACT, the public service union which represents almost 2,000 supervisors on FAS community employment schemes, is seeking an urgent meeting with the Minister for Enterprise and Employment to discuss its pay claim.
Mr Matt Staunton of IMPACT said the supervisors were in an intolerable position. They had a huge responsibility in training and the health and safety of trainees but were treated less favourably than social welfare recipients.
He said the supervisors earned £190 a week or £270 a week, depending on the number of trainees they supervised.
