The lack of a reliable water supply in some areas of Dublin constitutes a health hazard and is inconvenient for families with small children, according to Mr Eric Byrne TD (DL).

He called on the Minister for the Environment, Mr Howlin, to implement aspects relating to water supply in the Greater Dublin Development Plan and to implement the recommendations of the Water Strategy Study completed last year.

Mr Byrne said areas of the south city, including Terenure, Drimnagh, Crumlin, Walkinstown, Harold's Cross and the Tenters were regularly affected by the cut off of water supply due to the practice known as "throttling", which involves water pressure being lowered.
