A man with an alleged link to another man who travelled from Britain to carry out a suicide bomb attack in Iraq was arrested by police in Manchester today.

The suspect (40) was arrested in a dawn raid under Britain's Terrorism Act this morning in connection with suicide bomb attacks on coalition forces in Iraq.

He is alleged to be the housemate of another man who travelled to Iraq on a suicide bombing mission earlier this year.

The two men are not believed to be related and were described by a police source as “associates” who had lived in the same house.

After the raid, police officers distributed information leaflets to people in surrounding houses and streets.

The leaflets said the action followed an allegation that "an individual who once lived in the area was involved in a terrorist incident in Iraq earlier this year."
