Loyalist paramilitary group the Ulster Freedom Fighters today issued a warning to the wife of jailed paramilitary boss Johnny "Mad Dog" Adair to stay out ofNorthern Ireland.

A hoax device was left outside the home of Gina Adair's mother in the Shankill area of west Belfast amid reports she was in the North to visit her husband at Maghaberry Prison.

In a statement, the UFF warned that any visits by Adair's supporters to Northern Ireland "would not pass without incident" and said anyone associating with them would not be tolerated within the loyalist community.

In February, Mrs Adair and a number of associates of her husband, including Mr John White, fled from the lower Shankill area after being threatened by the UFF.

It followed the murder of Adair's bitter enemy, the UDA's East Antrim brigadier John Gregg, who was shot as he returned home from a Rangers match in Glasgow.

Last month, the UFF murdered one of Adair's closest associates. Alan McCullough (20) was shot dead and his body dumped in a shallow grave after he returned home from England. Two men have been charged with the murder.

Loyalist sources said that Mrs Adair had already visited her husband a number of times since being expelled from the North.

It is believed she returned home from Bolton, Greater Manchester, on Sunday morning and went to her mother's home under police escort. Mrs Adair has made clear her desire to return to Northern Ireland, saying she is unhappy living in Bolton.
