Gardaí in Cork are investigating the circumstances surrounding a traffic collision in the city in which a 21-year-old student from UCC was killed.
The young man, who was from Co Kerry, was killed when he was hit by two cars while walking along the Bloomfield Interchange on the South Link Road shortly after midnight.
The young man was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was removed to Cork University Hospital where a postmortem will take place this morning.
Gardaí closed off the inbound lane of the roadway where the incident happened for several hours to allow a forensic crash investigator examine the scene, but the road had since reopened.
It is believed that the student had earlier been attending a ball at the nearby Rochestown Park Hotel attended by some 600 UCC students.
