Paul Tierney is out of the Republic of Ireland's European Under-21 Championship qualifier against Albania tomorrow.
The Manchester United full-back - currently on loan at Crewe - failed to recover from the knee injury he aggravated against Georgia on Friday and flew home today along with Nottingham Forest's Andy Reid, who is suspended for the Albania clash following a red card against Georgia.
Manager Don Givens has moved Manchester City's Stephen Paisley to left- back and brought in Clifford Byrne of Scunthorpe beside Stockport's Jim Goodwin.
Brentford's Kevin O'Connor replaces the suspended Reid, while Givens is boosted by the return of Arsenal striker Graham Barrett - who is on loan at Brighton - as he drops down from the senior squad after Robbie Keane flew in to Albania today. Wes Hoolahan of Shelbourne makes way.
The under-21s have virtually no chance of progressing beyond the group stage as they have taken just one point from three matches, but Givens reinforced his view that he saw qualification as a bonus rather than a priority.
"I said right from the start it's a bonus if we qualify," said Givens.
"I am primarily concerned with developing players for the senior squad rather than developing teams, so as long as the boys are going through into Brian Kerr's squad that is what matters, and it will be the icing on the cake if we can top a group along the way."
