U2 registered their sixth UK chart number one last night with Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, their latest single from their album, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.
The confessional ballad was reportedly performed by the band at the funeral of Bono's father. It went to the top spot ahead of a re-release of Elvis Presley's Wooden Heart, the latest of 18 Elvis number ones being reissued before the 50-year copyright protection on sound recordings in most European countries expires on his earlier hits. Last week's number one, Eminem's Like Toy Soldiers, slipped to number three in the charts.
The Dublin band's previous number one singles in the UK were Desire, The Fly, Discotheque, Beautiful Day and Vertigo.
U2 begin a world tour in San Diego on March 28th and will play Dublin's Croke Park on June 24th and 25th.
